So what do you need to make sure that you are never late, sick or on vacation for your video calls? Well anymore most smart phones will run programs that make video calls. Let's look into a few of those programs;
- Skype: This is one of the most well known programs on the market. Fortunately it is free and only cost to call to directly to someone's house or phone number. If the person you are video conferencing with also has Skype on their mobile device, Skype offers free Skype-to-Skype calls. Skype can be used on any device that has some sort of Skype application. The only major downside is that you cannot initiate a video conference on a mobile device, only accept it.
Major mobile devices that can use the video conferencing part of Skype are the iPhone 4/4s, Android based phones, Blackberry, and some Nokia phones. The iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s can be the most user friendly Skype phones due to the fact that they have both a front facing camera and a back facing camera, making sure that they person you are Skyping can see you.
- FaceTime: Although this application is only used for Apple products, it can be much cheaper. The FaceTime app comes free with the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s, the iPad and Mac computers. The cost of FaceTime is only the cost of your mobile plan and the price of buying your Apple device.
The FaceTime application is limited to the iPhone 4/4s, the iPad 2 and Mac computers.
- FuzeBox Fuze Meeting: We talked about an Apple only product and now we are going to talk about an Android only product. The FuzeBox Fuze Meeting is a little bit more expensive. It is $10 for a one day conference and $828 for a year. While there is a slightly larger range of phones that this can be used on (all Android phones and tablets), it is expensive and has numerous complaints about its video quality. But one good thing that it does have is the ability to record your video conference and play it back for further use.
A few of the major mobile devices that can use this app are; HTC One S, Samsung Galaxy Nexus, HTC Rezound, and these are only three of the more common phones, not to mention different tablets. Really, it comes down to any mobile device that runs the Android OS can use this.
